Traditional Inking Tutorial:

:star: If the layers are flat, then how do I color underneath the ink layer in Photoshop? :star:
Set the layer mode to multiply, as shown below. Now you can create new layers underneath the "ink" layer, and color underneath the ink.

If you are opening a file (or just scanned in a file) and the ink is on the "background layer," you will need to either duplicate the layer and delete "background," or copy and paste it into a new file (I like doing this so that I can have two copies while fiddling with different aspects of the ink layer, such as DPI, birghtness/contrast, etc.)

Well I don't know who.. but.. have you tried uploading old icons that worked previously?
There would probably be some help in the forums, too!
:iconscrum-yummy:
I'll try uploading an old icon and looking for help through the forums. Thanks for the help! =) *sigh* Hopefully I can get SOMETHING to work :cries:

you have to duplicate the ink layer and then you can multiply. if the layers are flat, then that means there is only a background.

:iconscrum-yummy:
You don't have to duplicate the ink layer; just create layers underneath the ink layer (after you've set the ink layer on "mutiply")

which I said:

"Now you can create new layers underneath the "ink" layer, and color underneath the ink."

=)

:iconscrum-yummy:
oh. :lmao: sorry, I never have mine set as background because I always copy and paste linework into a new file when I fiddle with the DPI settings, so I wasn't thinking from that perspective :XD: thanks for pointing that out, I'll change it =)
