portlanders/vancouver-ites: question for you!

My husband is looking at opening an anime store downtown (we have found a space for rent on the MAX line, at 14th and Morrison). So I was hoping to gather feedback from anyone living in the Portland/Vancouver area.

basically:

Would you travel downtown to go to an anime/manga/collectables/etc store? (keep in mind, it is on the MAX line, with a bike path and bus route on the same street; and Vancouver-ites, it would mean no sales tax 8D )

What we want to carry:
-anime (for to buy and rent, including imports)
-manga
-games (anime-centric, sims)
-used anime, manga, and games
-region-free dvd players
-plushies, figures, and other collectables
-apparel
-buttons, accessories, etc
-stationary
-manga supplies (copics, paper, tone, etc)
-random other things?
-hello kitty vibrators :D

We plan on offering 10% discount cards to anime club members at schools (PSU etc).

Ideally, we would also like to set up some sort of fanart gallery system, where local artists can sell their art in our store.

So what do you guys think? I was hoping to get some feedback from locals to kind of get a better feel for the area. So I would love to hear opinions and feedback.

By the way, none of this is set in stone yet, but this is what we want to do. We're seriously looking into it and drawing up a business plan (which we'll then have to take to a loan officer and attempt to get a small business loan). It's something that we've both always wanted to do, but it looks kind of feasible for the moment, so we're going to give it a shot. :)

Yes, if I had moneyyyy! As it is I'm only going to be able to afford to go to Kumoricon by picking up a year-old paycheck for one night of work at a place I deemed too far away to be worthwhile.

For something to be a masterpiece, it must not only imbue a sense of regret upon completion, but also cause an undefinable longing for the fiction to be anything but. One day, I hope to create something that fits that description.

Ooo, always looking for somewhere closer than the Seattle Uwajimaya's to get deleter comic supplies. ink, and paper are always the hardest to get my hands on. Maybe copic selection if you have the seed money...? No one sells the ciao markers, and they're the cheepest. =\

oooh cosplayer stuff too? :o

Sounds good, we could use an actual anime store in this town.

And I'm also wanting to do some sort of coupon for people that visit my DA page/watch me on DA X3 So keep an eye out for that :3

Some cosplay stuff. We plan on carrying items like the drill necklaces from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, or Orihime's hairclips from Bleach. We won't carry costumes in the store, but we'll have a catalogue that people will be able to order from (and not pay shipping).

The short answer is yes! We plan on having as large a selection as possible. Basically, we want to get in import items (like the ink, paper, tone erasers, etc) that are hard to find, but we also want to team up with Art Media, since they will down the street (in other words, we won't carry what they carry, and will carry things they don't carry, that way we can send customers to each other instead of competing with each other). Art Media carries standard copics, so we'll carry ciao markers 8)

I also want to have testers so that people can play with materials before they buy it, and host workshops once a month or something. But we'll have to see about this (cross that bridge when we come to it).

haha XD Well, we do plan on trying to give out as many coupons and have as many sales as possible, and at the same time offer stuff that you can't get anywhere else and have fair prices =)

Let me think...I believe there's only one store LIKE that downtown, which is kinda surprising, so there wouldn't be too much competition depending on the actual location...
